Biography: Julian was born as on April 1st in 1951. He was a student at the Royal College of Music from 1969-1972. He studied cello with Eileen Croxford and Helen Just, and chamber music with Cecil Arnowitz.
Then he took up a place at the Vienna Academy of Music. Within a month he was offered a post in the City of Trier Orchestra, Germany. A full--time playing post within three months following three years of study isn't to be turned down!
Seeking a change of direction from an orchestral career he and his wife, Ilfra, moved to Manchester in 1975 to obtain Post Graduate teaching qualifications. His first cello teaching post was in nearby Bury where they lived for two years until 1977.
His next position as peripatetic cello teacher from 1977-1983 was in West Oxfordshire, where he also had voluntary jobs as the Witney Music Society Programme Secretary and as the Music Director with the Chipping Norton Amateur Operatic Society, (CHAOS).
After six years, and two children later, Julian moved to become Head of Strings for Wirral Borough Council.
In 1988 he moved, with family, to Winchester to join the Hampshire Music Service as Head of Lower Strings. Julian branched out in 1994 as an independent teacher following re-organisation Hampshire. He then worked for 7 years for the national charity Making Music as a Regional Development Officer, supporting music makers in the amateur sector. Around 2013, and having welcomed guests to Bed and Breakfast at home over 7 years, Julian took full retirement. In this he took up the projects shown on this web site. The lure of travelling by camper van also took place.
Family holidays were most often in Europe from 1980, and since then family have produced their own families. Other travels include India, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Fujeirah, Japan and the U.S.A. as well as overland camper van trips to Norway, Finland, Russia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece and Morocco. He has good language skills in German, some in French and basic Spanish.
His three novels, all quirky, indirectly promote ideas of free speech and friendliness between nations, whatever their beliefs may be.
